RHYC to host 2010 Junior Olympic Sailing Festival for the Chesapeake Bay!

Big news for Summer 2010:  The Rock Hall Yacht Club will host the 2010 US Sailing Junior Olympics on July 10-11, 2010.  The goal of this event is to promote the enjoyment of sailing and development of skills to young sailors as well as provide an Olympic pathway for talented junior sailors.  We expect that over 100 sailors ages 8-21 from all over the region will attend.  We'll mix Olympic style competition and learning with fun for all.  The plan is to have Optimist (all classes including Green), Laser Radial, C420, and Windsurfers classes in the Regatta.   Stay tuned for more information here and on our RHYC website.  For general infomation about Junior Olympic sailing, please visit US Sailing JO website.  For specific information on our event at RHYC, please contact Wanda or Chuck via email at jo2010@RockHallYachtClub.org.

Well here we are not even finished with the 09 season and we have the 2010 season off to a flying start! Great news, the Junior Olympics is a nationally recognized event with participation from far and wide and has chosen our YC as the venue for the next JO's. My prediction is there will be plenty of great things to come from our association with this event. And from the chatter at the club we have a good jump on the organization. It will take many more volunteers with ideas and were with all to implement those ideas. Is there anyone out there with a contact at a radio station that plays popular music (these are kids and teenagers you know) that might like to broadcast a show or two from the event? Word has it that we already have an "Olympic Flame" that will open the event and burn eternally, for at least two days, anyway. So if you have kids or grandkids that would like to be a part of this, great, if not help out anyway; it promises to be a lot of fun. Lee
